Roku makes some of the most popular streaming devices in America, but it works differently from a Firestick or an Android TV box. You cannot install the Area 51 IPTV app on a Roku directly. The good news is that there are four reliable ways to watch your subscription on a Roku TV or Roku stick, and this guide walks you through each one.
The short version
- Roku does not install Android apps (APK files), and old “private channel codes” no longer work.
- Fastest method: mirror your Android phone, or use AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad, to send the picture to your Roku.
- Remote-only method: use an IPTV player from the Roku Channel Store with your M3U link or Xtream Codes login.
- Best experience: plug an inexpensive Firestick or Android TV stick into your Roku TV and use the Area 51 IPTV app.
- You need an active plan or a free 24-hour trial first.
Why Roku Is Different
Firesticks and Android TV devices run on Android, so they can install apps from outside the official store. Roku runs its own system, Roku OS. Two things follow from that:
- No APK files. Roku only installs apps from the Roku Channel Store. Tools like Downloader do not exist for Roku.
- No private channel codes. Roku used to allow hidden “non-certified” channels that you added with a code. Roku shut that system down in 2022, so any list of “working Roku IPTV codes” is out of date.
That is why the methods below either send the picture to your Roku from another device, or use a player that is already in the Roku store.
The Four Methods Compared
| Method | What you need | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Screen mirroring | An Android phone or tablet | Quick setup, no extra cost |
| 2. AirPlay | An iPhone, iPad or Mac | Apple users |
| 3. Roku IPTV player | Your M3U link or Xtream Codes login | Using only the Roku remote |
| 4. Add a Firestick | A Fire TV Stick or Android TV stick | The best everyday experience |
Method 1: Screen Mirror from an Android Phone
With screen mirroring, whatever plays on your phone also appears on your TV. Roku supports this for Android and Windows devices.
- Install the Area 51 IPTV app on your Android phone and start your trial or sign in.
- Connect your phone and your Roku to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On your phone, pull down the status bar and tap Smart View. On other phones it may be called Cast, Screen casting or Wireless display.
- Select your Roku from the list.
- When your TV shows a prompt, choose Always allow with the Roku remote.
- Open the Area 51 IPTV app, start a channel and turn your phone sideways for full screen.
Roku’s own guide, How to screen mirror from your phone, tablet, or computer, lists the supported devices. Most current Roku models support mirroring, with a few exceptions such as the Roku Express 3700.
Method 2: AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad
Most recent Roku devices support Apple AirPlay. You play the stream on your Apple device and send it to the TV.
- On your Roku, go to Settings, Apple AirPlay and HomeKit and make sure AirPlay is on.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku.
- Set up Area 51 IPTV on your Apple device with the steps we send when you choose iPhone or iPad on the trial form.
- Start a channel, tap the AirPlay icon (or open Control Center and tap Screen Mirroring) and select your Roku.
According to Roku’s AirPlay guide, you need an iPhone or iPad with iOS 12.3 or later, and most Roku models need Roku OS 9.4 or 10.0 and above.
Method 3: An IPTV Player from the Roku Channel Store
If you prefer to use only the Roku remote, you can install an IPTV player from the Roku Channel Store and sign in with the details from your welcome email.
- Press Home on your Roku remote and open the Roku Channel Store (Streaming Store).
- Search for IPTV player or M3U player.
- Check the rating and recent reviews, then add a player that supports M3U or Xtream Codes.
- Open the player and choose how to log in. For Xtream Codes, enter the server URL, username and password from your email. For M3U, enter your M3U playlist link.
- Wait for the channel list to load and start watching.
Method 4: Add a Firestick to Your Roku TV (Best Experience)
If you own a Roku TV, the smoothest long-term option is to plug a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV stick into a free HDMI port. It costs little, and you get the full Area 51 IPTV app with the TV guide, favorites and a free trial built in.
- Plug the stick into an HDMI port on your Roku TV and connect its power adapter.
- On the Roku home screen, select that HDMI input.
- Follow our guide How to Install the Area 51 IPTV APK. If you are new to installing apps on a Fire TV, how to jailbreak a Firestick safely explains the one setting you need.

Tips for a Smooth Picture
- Keep both devices on the same Wi-Fi band. For mirroring and AirPlay, connect the phone and the Roku to the same network, ideally 5 GHz.
- Stay close to the router. Mirroring sends video over your home Wi-Fi twice, so signal strength matters.
- Plug in your phone. Mirroring uses a lot of battery.
- Restart before a big game. A quick restart of the router, Roku and phone prevents most problems. Our guide on how to stop buffering has more tips that apply to any device.

Area 51 IPTV on Roku FAQ
Can I install the Area 51 IPTV app on Roku?
No. The app is an Android APK, and Roku does not install Android apps. Use screen mirroring, AirPlay, a Roku IPTV player or an added Firestick instead.
Do Roku private channel codes still work?
No. Roku removed non-certified channels in 2022, so those codes no longer work.
Which method gives the best picture?
A Firestick or Android TV stick plugged into the TV gives the most stable picture, because the stream plays directly on the device. Mirroring depends on your phone and Wi-Fi.
Can I use my phone while mirroring?
With screen mirroring, the TV shows everything on your phone, so it is best to leave it alone while you watch. With AirPlay from a video player, you can usually keep using other apps.
Does this work on a Roku TV and a Roku stick?
Yes. Methods 1 to 3 work on Roku TVs and Roku streaming players that support mirroring or AirPlay. Method 4 needs a TV with a free HDMI port.
